About the UK Kidney Week (UKKW) Programme Committee
The UKKW Programme Committee is the driving force behind the development of the UKKA’s annual conference. This dedicated team collaborates with session proposers and abstract submitters to curate a well-rounded and educational programme. The ultimate goal is to create a platform that caters to the diverse needs of the professional kidney community. The committee receives vital support from the UKKA events team, ensuring the seamless execution of this significant event.
Committee structure
Once sessions have been selected, the committee divides into workstreams to keep the meetings agile and focussed, with the four co-chairs meeting regularly to ensure consistency across the developing programme.
Meetings
Most Committee meetings will be held virtually, alternating between morning and lunchtime, and members are asked to attend wherever possible. A face-to-face meeting will be held in February/March of next year to review and assign abstracts to the programme.
Local involvement
Where appropriate, local members will be invited to contribute to the programme for sessions with a regional theme.
Deadline for submission:
Interested individuals should submit a short paragraph (max 500 words) outlining their interest in the role, what they aspire to bring to the UKKW programme, and any relevant information about previous experience or qualifications. All submissions should be sent to events@ukkidney.org.
The deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm on Friday, 22nd September.

The Committee’s Responsibilities:
The UKKW Programme Committee carries a significant role in shaping the conference. Some of its primary responsibilities include:
- Programme Development: Creating an educational programme that addresses the needs of all UKKA members.
- Speaker Selection: Identifying keynote and plenary session speakers who can inspire and educate the kidney community.
- Session Development: Collaborating with subject matter experts to develop sessions, ensuring a balanced programme.
- Abstract Submission: Overseeing the abstract submission process, including marking and selecting abstracts for oral presentation or moderated poster sessions.
- Diversity and Inclusion: Ensuring that the committee, chairs, and speakers reflect the diverse nature of the UKKA and the kidney patient population.
What the Committee Does Not Do: It’s important to note that the committee does not make financial decisions, budgetary decisions, or determine the conference venue or support.
