Calling all members of the multi-professional kidney team – abstract submissions are now open for the Donal O’Donoghue Fellowship Award, with a £5,000 grant to support outstanding work that improves care for people living with kidney disease.
The award will be presented at UK Kidney Week 2026, taking place in Harrogate from 10–12 March. Abstract submissions are open until 19 September 2025.
About the Award
Generously funded by Kidney Care UK, the Fellowship Award celebrates work that delivers immediate and direct benefit to kidney patients. It is open to individuals, or teams led by a member of the multi-professional team. This includes nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and technicians.
Entries will be reviewed by a panel drawn from both Kidney Care UK and UKKA. The recipient will be asked to submit a short progress report after the award.
Honouring Donal O’Donoghue OBE
The award is named in memory of Professor Donal O’Donoghue OBE, whose career spanned clinical practice, leadership and advocacy at every level of kidney care. Donal was a former Chair of Kidney Care UK, President of the Renal Association (now the UKKA), and the first National Clinical Director for Kidney Care in England. He played a central role in advancing multi-professional working, sustainability, and patient-centred approaches – both nationally and internationally.
His legacy lives on through this award, which aims to support and sustain work that reflects the values he championed.
